Phasor Diagrams for Relay Testers
Просмотров 43 тыс.9 лет назад
We just released our latest online training course about phasor diagrams for relay testers and this video summarizes the topics in that course: Waveform diagrams contain every detail of an electrical system, but that information can be difficult to understand without a lot of effort. Phasor drawings take the complex information embedded in waveform drawings and convert it into phasor diagrams s...

Understanding How Different Relays and Test-Sets Calculate Frequency
Просмотров 10 тыс.10 лет назад
Relays that use time delays in seconds are easy to test because seconds is an universal unit that can only be interpreted one way. Relays that use time delays in cycles are easy to test as long as the relay and the test-set use the same reference. Cycles can be defined by the generated frequency, or by the nominal (or system) frequency. If the relay and the test-set do not use the same referenc...

    Hi sir, I have a doubt ..i connected 2 pt in same phase.for example In R phase .Say the first PT output is 1S1 and 1S2 and the second PT output is 2S1 and 2S2 .and i measured the voltage between 1S1 and 2S1.and i got 126V .Actually the voltage should be zero.because the i connected both PT in same phase.but iam getting voltage ..so what should be the reason.kindly help me.Hope you will understand my question

    How to understand forward and reverse direction for zone settings? Like in case of Relay2 we have set zone 1,2 from right to left but similarly for Relay1 its zone1,2 is from left to right!

    • @Relaytraining
      @Relaytraining Год назад

      Forward is towards the protected device (the line in this case), reverse is current flowing away from the protected device.

    Very nice explanations, thanks. But we need more, we need to know the quadrants labels accordingly to the reference used U or I. This course does not explain anything about how the position and name of the quadrants are changed depending on the chosen reference.

    • @Relaytraining
      @Relaytraining 2 года назад

      That's an interesting take. I've been testing relays since 1995 and never paid attention to quadrant labels until I had to write something about it. Why would this be useful to a relay tester?

    How to choose permissive schemes (PUTT or POTT) for a line?

    • @Relaytraining
      @Relaytraining 3 года назад

      You have to do a system study to see if your system has enough energy to over-reach or under-reach, then decide whether you want security or reliability.

    I would love if you would compare POTT vs PUTT, cause I can't see the difference. Yes i understand that the PUTT only transfer a Z1 puckup, and POTT looks at Z2 pickup. But could you make an example where it would behave differently? Thank you.

    • @Relaytraining
      @Relaytraining 3 года назад

      The POTT Video at ruclips.net/video/vVSDE59vJlc/видео.html shows an example of a POTT scheme failure that wouldn't have happened if a PUTT scheme was applied because the Under-reach transfer trip signal would never have been sent in the first place

      @@Relaytraining is this mean we should choose PUTT over POTT? Is there any advantage of POTT over PUTT. Some one told me it is faster but I'm not quite understand because at the fault location we consider z1 and z2 pickup happen at the same time.

    • @Relaytraining
      @Relaytraining 2 года назад

      @@tossapolpholthip4338 I think so. The only argument I've ever heard for POTT over PUTT that made any sense was if you have a very weak source, and I've forgotten the part that makes sense as I write this.

    • @Relaytraining
      @Relaytraining 2 года назад

      @@tossapolpholthip4338 There is no difference in speed between POTT and PUTT at the same location with the same relays. The Zone 1 and Zone 2 math is the same inside the relay. All delays are caused by communication between devices, which would be the same regardless of POTT or PUTT.

    • @tossapolpholthip4338
      @tossapolpholthip4338 2 года назад

      @@Relaytraining when fault occurs the impedance Z will quickly decrease from load impedance to fault impedance in zone 1 and it should hit zone 2 barrier before it hit zone 1 hence z2 pickup should happen before z1 pickup/trip. I’m not so sure about above statement so I need second opinion. But if the impedance just jump to z1 then z1 and z2 should pickup at the same time.
